No Plot To Impeach Speaker – Imo Assembly

The Imo State House of Assembly on Wednesday denied hatching any plot to impeach the Speaker, Dr Benjamin Uwajumogu.
Speaking with reporters at the premises of the Asembly in Owerri, the state capital, the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Dr Acho Ihim dismissed the claims as “false, malicious and unfounded”.
According to him, the speaker has not contravened any law to warrant his removal. Ihim accused some politicians and a section of the media of fueling the rumour to “witch-hunt and tarnish the image of the House”.
“It should be noted that the impeachment speculations only exist in the wildest and skewed imaginations if their sponsors.

“The Speaker, being one of the custodians of our country’s laws has not in any form contravened any law to warrant his impeachment”, he said.
The assembly’s spokesman further alleged that the rumours were part of plans to destabilize the state ahead of the forthcoming general elections in 2015.
“The rumours were orchestrated with a view to heat up the polity and run down the government of the day for their inordinate political ends”, he added.
Ihim said the speaker had brought about significant progress since he took over the leadership of the legislature.
He maintained that the assembly remained united and would continue to discharge its constitutional role to ensure the protection of the socioeconomic well-being of the people.
