Moyes: Manchester United weren’t close to buying Ozil, we didn’t need him

The Scot says that the Red Devils were not interested in signing the Germany international as they already had similar players in the squad such as Shinji Kagawa and Wayne Rooney
David Moyes says Manchester United did not try to sign Mesut Ozil in the summer because he was a player they "didn’t need”.
The Germany international moved from Real Madrid to Arsenal in August and has proved to be an instant success at the Emirates, helping the Gunners to the top of the Premier League table.
Ozil had also been linked with a move to the Red Devils prior to the deal going through, but Moyes insisted the club were never close to bringing him to Old Trafford

Balotelli not for sale – Milan

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has denied reports that Mario Balotelli could leave the club in January.
The 23-year-old Italy striker, who joined AC Milan from Manchester City in January, has been linked with a possible move to Chelsea.
Balotelli has scored three Serie A goals this season and is contracted to the Rossoneri until June 2017.
“He will not leave in January, absolutely not,” Allegri said on his club’s website.
Balotelli was banned for three games in September for using “intimidating and insulting” words to the referee after AC Milan’s 2-1 defeat by Napoli.
But his manager has backed him to be a success at the San Siro.
He added, “I think Mario should, be left in peace. It’s not difficult to manage him.
“There’s far too much discussion of the man’s private life.
“I think that Balotelli should be judged for what he does on the pitch, like all other players.”

Liverpool manager wanted me at Chelsea – Moses

Liverpool’s on-loan forward Victor Moses very nearly became a Chelsea player more than five years before actually making the move to Stamford Bridge.
Moses was an academy product at Crystal Palace in the previous decade and made his Premier League debut with the Eagles.
It was the same time that his current Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was youth team manager under Jose Mourinho at Chelsea.
Rodgers became an admirer of Moses’ talents, and the 22-year-old admitted he was being wooed for a switch after just a few sessions with the Blues. Moses eventually joined Chelsea in 2012.
“I spoke to (Rodgers) when I was 16 and he wanted me to come to Chelsea, the Nigeria winger  told Liverpool’s official site.
“So I trained with the club for a bit and he was impressed.
“I went back home after the training period, had a little think about it and thought I’d get a bigger chance to play and develop at Palace.
“So I rang him up and said I was sorry, but that I decided not to join them, and that I wanted to build my career from Palace.
“It’s great actually that I eventually move to Liverpool and he’s the manager here and I get the chance to work under him

Mikel hails Mourinho impact at Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi has praised coach Jose Mourinho for the positive impact he has made since returning to the club at the start of the season.
The Blues are currently in second place on the Premier League standings and first in their group in the Champions League and Mikel believes the Portuguese has helped to restore their winning mentality.
“This game is all about winning and the manager that brought this transformation of winning to this club is back now,”  the Super Eagles star  told Chelsea TV.
“He still has the same idea of how he wants us to approach every game with a win, win mentality.
“I came to this club at 18 and he made me to think win, win, win. Whenever you see him, you see motivation.
“He walks around the place full of energy, full of confidence. And really, he is not doing it for himself but for you to see how he goes about his business and he wants you to emulate that into yourself and start behaving in a similar way.
“This is because confidence can lead you to so many places that you never thought you could go and it is just brilliant to work with him again.
“And now that he is back, we hope that we can continue winning the trophies that we won since he left.”
The Blues will look to continue with their winning form when they visit Newcastle United in a league clash on Saturday

FIFA U-17: Mexico 1 - 6 Nigeria

 http://www.talkofnaija.com/images/nig-u-17.jpg
Three-time champions Nigeria left little to doubt when they opened their FIFA U-17 World Cup campaign against twice champions and holders Mexico in Al Ain, winning out by an emphatic 6-1 scoreline.

The result piles more unhappiness on the Mexican nation, whose senior team is experiencing a crisis in senior FIFA World Cup qualifying, while Nigeria sit comfy and cozy at the top of Group F.
Nigeria looked nervous early, but the Mexicans were unable to take advantage of their opponents’ trepidation. Striker Ulises Jaimes had a chance to score with his head after only three minutes, but the ball was deflected wide of danger by the scrambling Nigerian defence.
With a half-hour gone, and after a few more Mexican half-chances, the Africans had settled into their rhythm. That was bad news for Mexico. With 33 minutes gone, the speedy Golden Eaglets were through on a counter-attack. Success Isaac, who seven times in the African qualifiers, raced in and rounded the goalkeeper, pulling the ball back across goal. Kelechi Iheanacho followed the play and produced a clever finish, hitting the ball high into the net to get over a pair of Mexican defenders

Why Ibrahimovic and Cavani are incompatible at PSG

Why Ibrahimovic and Cavani are incompatible at PSG

The Uruguayan has out-scored the Swede so far this season but the decision to continually deploy him in wide areas proves the pair are not functioning well together.
Edinson Cavani’s arrival at Paris Saint-Germain from Napoli in the summer coincided with Zlatan Ibrahimovic exit rumours reaching fever pitch. Logic dictated that it should be impossible for the duo to feature together in the same side, while using them in a rotation system was a non-starter given the ego of the Swede and money invested in the Uruguayan

Mesut Ozil: Arsenal midfielder has fans daring to dream again

  Mesut Ozil

The famous clock perched high at one end of Emirates Stadium had us eight minutes into Arsenal's Champions League meeting with Rafael Benitez's Napoli, the supposed dark horses in the hazardous Group F.
Olivier Giroud flicked the ball along the line to Aaron Ramsey, two of the symbols of Arsenal's recent renaissance joining forces to open up the left side of Napoli's defence. Ramsey broke into the area, took a look and picked out Mesut Ozil on the edge of the area.
Ozil, a deadly combination of grace and danger, barely broke stride or sweat to sweep a precise side-foot finish out of the reach of diving Napoli keeper Pepe Reina to give Arsenal an advantage they were never in danger of surrendering

Fernando Torres: FA decision a disgrace - Andre Villas-Boas

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres scratches the face of Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen

The decision not to ban Fernando Torres for scratching Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen's face is "a disgrace", says Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas.
The Football Association cannot take action as one of the match officials said he saw the incident between Chelsea striker Torres and Vertonghen, although "not in its entirety".
"The decision is a disgrace," said Villas-Boas.
The Portuguese also described the FA's lack of action as "almost farcical".
Torres tripped Vertonghen in the 50th minute of Saturday's 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane before the pair immediately squared up to each other

‘Moyes Needs Ferguson’s Help” – McQueen

David Moyes needs to seek out Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistance following Sunday’s derby loss to Manchester United, according to Red Devils legend Gordon McQueen.
Manchester City showed no mercy towards the Scot at the Etihad Stadium, as two goals from Sergio Aguero and strikes from Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri wrapped up an emphatic victory.
It was a result which brought to mind memories of City’s stunning 6-1 triumph at Ferguson’s United at Old Trafford in October 2011, when Roberto Mancini’s men went on to lift the Premier League.
McQueen feels now would be a good time for Moyes to bend his predecessor’s ear about how best to rally his team, but remains confident United will be able to retain their title nonetheless.
“I will be surprised if he doesn’t seek out Sir Alex’s advice because he is there for things like that,” McQueen told Goal
