Live updates: Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay absent from press conference after Vincent Tan sack threat

10.35am
That's the end of our live updates from a dramatic morning. Keep checking our Cardiff City homepage for the latest updates on the managerial situation and preparations for tomorrow's match against Liverpool.
10.31am
Cardiff City's training session this morning - normally open to the media for the first 15 minutes - will be held behind closed doors today.
10.28am
After Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers voiced his support for Malky Mackay yesterday, more support has now come for the Bluebirds manager from Everton's Roberto Martinez, who has told a press conference:  "He's been very successful. A manager deserves respect when he gives his all."

10.23am
With emotion among Bluebirds fans running extremely high, there's talk of a fan protest against the treatment of Mackay taking place at the Cardiff City Stadium at 11am.
10.21am
One note on this afternoon's board discussions - members of the board will no doubt be in touch with each other after Tan flies in this afternoon, but there is no official board meeting.
10.20am
General view coming out of that press conference seems to be one of sympathy for David Kerslake - summoned from the training field at short notice to face the media in one of the most scrutinised media events of the year.
10.16am
Terry Phillips
Terry Phillips' view: "David Kerslake was put in a really difficult position there - he was unable to say anything about Mackay situation and was pressed hard by journalists telling him they needed answers.
"As we stand Mackay is still Cardiff City manager - he is taking training as usual and is due to fly up with team to Liverpool.
"Tan is flying into the UK later and will have talks with other board members, although it’s clear he has the power to make his own decisions anyway.
"Maybe it will all become clearer later. Only Vincent Tan can resolve this - Mackay is simply getting on with his job."
10.09am
Here's the full report from this morning's dramatic press conference. The situation is still developing, and we'll bring you more updates as we get them.
10.05am
However, it's understood the board will meet this afternoon to discuss the future of the manager, so that could all be subject to change.
10.03am
It is expected Vincent Tan is flying in for the match at Liverpool, while Malky Mackay will be taking training this morning.  The team are flying to Liverpool for the game and it is expected as things stand that Mackay will be with them.
9.59am
Media officer Mark Denham: “Malky Mackay is still in charge. I have talked to him this morning.”
9.58am
Main points from David Kerslake's press conference:
* Kerslake says he understands Mackay will take charge of the team to face Liverpool: "Nobody has said anything different."
* He insists managerial turmoil will not affect preparations for Anfield match: “This will not affect the players at all. They are looking for to a match at a fantastic stadium.”
* Press told all questions will be about tomorrow's game, and all questions about Mackay's future pushed aside.
9.44am
We've just heard that Malky Mackay will not be addressing this morning's press conference, which will instead be taken by assistant manager David Kerslake. Rumours circulating online that Mackay was seen driving away from the training ground are currently completely unsubstantiated.
9.37am
To keep you up-to-date as much as possible with what's happening at the Vale of Glamorgan Resort at the moment - Ben Turner is first up at the press conference, followed by Malky Mackay. Unfortunately, we've been blocked from bringing you events as they happen, but stay tuned, and we'll have a bulletin from the presser as soon as we can.
9.29am
So, just to clarify the situation - we've got three seated rows packed with journalists, a line-up of TV cameras at the back, and thousands of passionate football fans desperate to know what the future is for their beloved manager... and the club issue a media blackout.
9.24am
As we wait to be allowed to bring you updates from the press conference, here's a video that says everything you need to know about Mackay's relationship with Tan, courtesy of @JacquiOatley

9.18am
The club have just told journalists that they are not allowed to publish anything live for the duration of the press conference. This is highly unusual - but we'll stay online to bring you all the updates from what's said as soon as we possibly can.
9.16am
It's due to be Ben Turner speaking first, with Mackay facing questioning immediately afterwards. We've not been informed that there'll be any change to that, but nobody is quite sure how this press conference will pan out after the revelations yesterday.
9.14am
The press conference room is packed as the nation's football media wait to find out what Mackay has to say.
9.10am
A few minutes to go now until the press conference starts.
9.05am
The other name returning to the fray at the moment is Turkish maverick Yilmaz Vural, whose claims last month to have agreed a deal to take over at the Cardiff City Stadium were dismissed as "pure fantasy" by club chairman Mehmet Dalman. But it's understood Vural could still be in line for a potential role at the club, in the event of Mackay's departure.
8.59am
Of course, aside from Mackay's own future at the club, there is also the small matter of the visit to in-form Liverpool tomorrow - and the question of how to tackle the Reds' world-class striker Luis Suarez. If you'd like to distract yourself for a second from off-field matters, read this advice from Cardiff City legends on how to tackle the Uruguayan hitman.
8.52am
The other line to emerge yesterday was a possible return for Dave Jones - the former manager who was sacked in 2011 and replaced by Mackay.
Since leaving the Bluebirds, Jones has taken the club to the High Court in a £539,000 payments dispute, which was eventually settled out of court.
The 57-year-old, recently sacked by Sheffield Wednesday, has repeatedly said Cardiff "mean nothing to me" since leaving the club.
Speaking after a match between Cardiff City and the Owls, he said: "Yes I have a problem with Cardiff City. They should have been more respectful than they have been.
"What that problem is will come out soon. That problem is, of course, with the owners."
8.49am
While Mackay has been told to quit or be sacked, we understand he has no intention of resigning, and is fully planning to lead his team out at Anfield for tomorrow's televised lunchtime clash with Liverpool.
His determination comes after a succession of antagonistic moves this week by Tan, starting with an extraordinary club statement admonishing the popular manager for "unfairly raising supporters’ expectations" by indicating he wanted to sign three new players in the January transfer window.
8.42am
If you happened to miss this story unfold last night, you can refresh your memory of the extraordinary chain of events here.
8.37am
The normal form of press conferences like this morning's is that Mackay will appear with a player at around 9.15am, but there is some speculation that after last night's revelations, Mackay will appear alone today. He often plays a very straight bat to questions about his future at the club - it'll be fascinating to see how he conducts himself this morning.
8.30am
Malky Mackay's weekly press conference will take on added significance this morning in the light of last night's revelations about an email from Cardiff City chairman Vincent Tan ordering him to quit or be sacked.
Mackay is due to face the media at 9.15am ahead of the match against Liverpool at Anfield tomorrow lunchtime.
But as his relationship with Tan nears breaking point, the main lines of questioning are likely to focus on Mackay's future at the club.
Former Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was yesterday backed heavily to replace Mackay, while the odds shortened dramatically on the Scottish manager taking charge at West Brom, without a manager since the departure of Steve Clarke.
Meanwhile, former boss Dave Jones is being considered for a return to the club he left in 2011, most likely in the role of director of football.
